Work
underload
Work underload occurs when work-related tasks are too low
so that they do not sufficiently challenge the individual.
Situations of work underload can also induce stress. These
tasks require constant attention yet provide little stimulation.
As a result prolonged exposure typically reduces physiological
arousal and causes boredom in most people.
Two kinds of work underload may be observed – quantitative
and qualitative. Quantitative underload is defined as having
too little work to do in the available time, whereas qualitative
overload relates to level of employee e.g. highly skilled
individual is assigned low-level demands.
